Rwanda is set to launch Africa’s first ever self-flying electric air taxi at the Aviation Africa 2025 summit in Kigali.

The innovation was developed in partnership with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and operated by EHang, a global air mobility technology company.

The flight, EHang EH216-S pilotless eVTOL, marks the first public air taxi in Africa and aims at reducing traffic congestion and creating sustainable transportation options.

Rwanda joins Ethiopia, which also announced in April 2025, plans to introduce electric air taxis. The move, according to the country is to revolutionize urban air mobility on the continent.

“Rwanda is actively building a future where our cities are more connected and our economy is more dynamic through innovative transport solutions,” Rwanda’s minister of infrastructure, Jimmy Gasore noted in a statement.

EHang believes the innovation will help Rwanda to “explore the potential of the low-altitude economy and create new models for innovative development across the continent.”

The EHang EH216-S is scheduled to be launched between September 4-5 at the Aviation Summit which aims to bring aviation professionals and stakeholders across the world together to leverage growth in the industry as well as explore investment opportunities.
