Ghana thrashed Central African Republic 5-0 at Morocco’s Ben M’Hamed El Abdi Stadium, giving a significant boost to the country’s 2026 FIFA World Cup bid.
Monaco’s center-back, Mohammed Salisu netted the first goal in the 20th minute of the game, Thomas Partey followed shortly after the first half in 52 minutes, Alexander Djiku in the 69th minute, Black Stars Captain Jordan Ayew in the 71st minute and Kamaldeen Sulemana in 3 minutes to 90 minutes.
Captain Jordan Ayew believes any team that played against Ghana on Wednesday night would have lost, touting the team’s dogged determination to push through to the World Cup.
“With the determination and motivation, we had today, whoever was on the pitch against us would’ve lost. From the first minute, we were at it. When we scored the first goal, we were all happy, united, and played as brothers — and this is what I want to see. If we keep this commitment and attitude, no one can stop us,” he said in a post-match interview.
Ghana’s win against CAR leaves the Black Stars top of Group I, with just one point away from qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the country’s Sports Minister, Kofi Adams says Ghana aims to be competitive at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to restore its ‘lost glory.’
“I think this time around also; we will not just go to the World Cup to just add to the numbers. We want to go there and let people feel our presence just the same way they did in South Africa in 2010. We want the world to feel our presence,” he stated.
Ghana will play its final qualifier against Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, where a draw will confirm the Black Stars’ place.
