President of the United States, Donald Trump has been ordered by a federal judge to detail how he intends to prevent illegal deportation of migrants sent to Ghana back to their home countries.
The Judge, Tanya Chutkan says it appears the administration wants to make an “end run” around court orders prohibiting the deportation of some five African immigrants to their home countries.
Ghana in early September confirmed it had received 14 Nigerian and Gambian migrants from US, and had facilitated the deportation of the Nigerian migrants ‘back home’ on their request.
The District Court is accusing the Trump administration of using Ghana to facilitate the deportation of migrants back to their countries of origin in the adminitration’s ‘Third-countries deportation’ program.
The Court has thus ordered the administration to file a declaration detailing by end of Saturday, how it will ensure the other immigrants weren’t improperly sent to their home countries from Ghana.
“This appears to be a specific plan to make an end run around these obligations. What does the government intend to do? And please don’t tell me you don’t have any control over Ghana because I know that,” Chutkan said.
According to AP, one of the plaintiffs has already been shipped from Ghana to his native Gambia, where a U.S. court found he could not be sent.
