Cameroon secures first-ever WAFCON champions

August 17, 2026

Cameroon secured a 3-0 victory to claim their first ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title on Sunday, August 16

Marie Ngah Manga’s header put the Indomitable Lionesses ahead in the 20th minute over tournament debutants Malawi. Naomi Eto later doubled the lead on the half hour mark. In the third minute of the first half added time, striker Ngah Manga gave Cameroon their third goal which went unequaled for the rest of the game.

Malawi, the lowest-ranked side at WAFCON 2026 at 153rd in the world, reached final with an impressive performance in their first-ever WAFCON appearance, despite getting their hopes dashed for the final glory.

Cameroon and Malawi have now secured their slot at the 2027 Women’s Fifa World Cup in Brazil alongside fellow WAFCON semi-finalists Algeria and Morocco.
